About Matthew Philips, MD
Dr. Philips is a neurological surgeon in practice with Southcoast Neurosurgery. He is on the medical staff at St. Lukes Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham.
A native of New Bedford, Dr. Philips is a graduate of Yale University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania and subspecialty fellowship training in complex and reconstructive spinal surgery.
He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Joint Sections of Trauma and Critical Care and Spinal and Peripheral Nerves and North American Spine Society.
In addition to spinal reconstruction, Dr. Philips has a special interest in spine tumors, degenerative disease of the spine, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury and surgical treatment of epilepsy.
Dr. Philips is board certified in neurological surgery.

Dr. Philips provided specific advice following my major spinal fusion surgery and the causes of continuing pain. Additional treatments were recommended, and a visit was scheduled.

If the doctor is going to be a half hour late after the appointment, I think that the patient should be informed of that well before their appointment time. I had to wait 45 minutes longer to see my doctor.
Dr Philips is down to earth and real. He speaks his concerns and gives options but also understands pain levels. But looking for NON evasive or minimal evasive actions to get to the end results. I like him a LOT

Dr. Philips was very professional, very, he was excellent. Very good. I recommend him to anybody. One drawback, waited I think pretty much an hour in a waiting room when I was at my appointment on time. That's the only fault I can find. I'm not saying it's his fault. I'm just saying that it's evidence that it was perfect, except the waiting time was a little bit too much. Other than that, everything was great. I'd recommend him to anyone.

Dr Philips is a great doctor. Both my surgeries were a success, thank God. He listens to your complaints and gives an honest opinion of what might be going on. This visit he referred me to a Neurologist, I was not happy that I can not be seen till June of 2025. that's not his fault. I will always have him as my neurosurgeon.
Dr Philips personally made time available to see me even though his surgery schedule was precluding him from seeing patients this particular day. He went above and beyond to accommodate me and guide me with a treatment plan ASAP.
