About John (Jack) Carroll MD
John (Jack) Carroll, MD is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame where he obtained his Bachelor of Science. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia.
As a Major in the United States Air Force, he completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency in San Antonio, Texas at the Department of Defense’s only Level 1 trauma center. Over the course of his medical training, he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society for his academic excellence and interpersonal patient interactions.
Following his residency, Dr. Carroll was stationed with the U.S. Air Force in England, serving as Chief of Orthopedics. After his time in the military, he returned to UVA to complete fellowship training in adult reconstructive surgery at the university’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery. There, he gained expertise in performing primary and revision joint replacements, robotics, and direct anterior total hip replacements.
Dr. Carroll is passionate about Orthopedics and Adult Reconstructive Surgery as there is a wide array of non-operative and operative options available to patients that can be life changing. These services allow patients to decrease their pain levels and regain function and quality of life.
His personal philosophy of care is to treat every patient as if they were one of his own family members. He creates treatment plans that are tailored to each patient, emphasizing non-operative measures prior to any surgery, while giving patients all the information they need to make informed decisions. When the shared decision is made for surgery, he offers the latest, evidence-based techniques and approaches to help optimize outcomes.
A New England native and graduate of Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth, MA, Dr. Carroll is excited to return to southeastern Massachusetts with his wife and three children.
While not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, reading, and following New England sports and Notre Dame football.

Dr Carroll & his staff were fantastic! Highly efficient, professional, patient, great listeners, and performed a challenging & successful hip replacement surgery! I have already recommended him to everyone I know. My husband has difficult medical issues such as acute memory loss, general frailty, & brittle diabetes. Yet, they spoke to him with dignity & compassion. Rare to find this in doctors, has been my experience. They were just great to deal with!!!
This was my first appointment with Dr. Carroll. He had reviewed my record and X-rays in advance, and answered my questions thoroughly. Hw had a collaborative approach to treatment options, which I consider of high importance. He administered an injection into my hip expertly, and prescribed PT as the next step of treatment. I was very satisfied with Dr. Carrol's communication skills, expertise, and treatment.
I found the staff to be really nice to speak with. I really was impressed with dr Carroll. He listened and was so good explaining about my knee and what was available for treatment. Very nice doctor. Southcoast is the best. Love all my doctors

Doctor Carroll and his whole staff have been absolutely awesome in my whole difficult situation.
The staff and the provider were very helpful and friendly. They greeted us in a friendly manner and walked us through every step that we needed. The lady called to schedule an MRI for us which was extremely helpful and went out of her way to do so. The provider was very friendly and listened to our concerns. He performed a very thorough exam of the knee and explained his assessment in detail in a manner that we understood. He has an excellent bedside manner and that goes a long way. We were very happy and pleased with the care we received.
Dr. Carroll cared that I was in pain and came up with a treatment plan that made sense (drained knee and injected cortisone to be followed up with PT). Even thought this was my first appointment with Dr. Carroll, I was confident that he would help me, and he did. Worth the drive to Wareham.
I am very comfortable with this provider and staff . I was treated very well and all my conditions were explained in a way I could understand. He took the time to show me on the screen and did a great job with the injection in my knee . I recommend this doctor's office .
My primary care dr called to make me an appointment and they squeezed me in the next day. Dr Carroll was great and so was the nurse that set me up in the room and went over all my health information. I'm satisfied with the care I got and will definitely see Dr Carroll again if I need to.

Dr. Carroll was very helpful in that he discussed several approaches I could take to improve my issues. He was thoughtful and encouraging. He took time after explaining things to ask me if I had further questions and then asked me which approach was I inclined to take and I told him and then he proceeded. I feel he was a good listener and problem solver.
Dr. Carroll explained everything to me completely & used my mri images to help me better understand. He took his time with me and gave me all my options. I liked him very much and he made me feel comfortable and didn't dismiss any of my concerns.
