About Ivan Urits MD
Raised in New York and New Jersey, Dr. Urits attended Boston College before earning his medical degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. After returning to the Boston Area, Dr. Urits completed both his residency in anesthesia and fellowship in interventional pain medicine through Harvard Medical School at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He has clinical interests in non-surgical minimally invasive procedures which treat low back pain, neck pain, knee pain, and shoulder pain.
His philosophy of care is to recognize the patient as a whole, rather than just one diagnosis or injury. Dr. Urits acknowledges that pain is a whole-body experience and is concerned about his patients’ ability to function as well as their quality of life. He was inspired to become a physician as it allows him to form lasting relationships with his patients and empower them by helping them manage their pain and regain their quality of life.
Dr. Urits believes Southcoast Health is special due to a multidisciplinary approach by specialists that work together to listen to, evaluate, and treat patients. In doing this, they are passionate about practicing medicine that puts the patients first while constantly learning and using cutting-edge techniques to provide the best patient care possible.
Outside of work Dr. Urits works closely with medical students, residents, and clinical fellows on written projects and publications. He finds this extremely rewarding as it allows him to form close relationships with these students, provide mentorship, and often help them achieve their own medical goals. In his down time, Dr. Urits likes to focus on living an active lifestyle. Some of his hobbies include hiking and fishing.
