Wound Care Centers Receives Healogics Award

Southcoast Health’s Wound Care Centers Recognized with Healogics Center of Distinction Award

Charlton Memorial and St. Luke’s Hospital’s Wound Care Centers among only three centers to have received the Center of Distinction Award by Healogics in Massachusetts. This is the third year in a row Southcoast’s Wound Care Centers have received recognition. Healogics is the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. The Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months in patient satisfaction, wound healing rate, and median days to heal.

Despite the challenges many have faced throughout the past 16 months, the Southcoast Health Wound Care Centers have continued to demonstrate incredible efforts to remain Patient first and deliver exceptional, safe care. Through the honor of achieving Center of Distinction metrics, The Wound Care Centers have shown perseverance and kept patients on the path of healing, even during the difficult times of COVID-19 and the transition back to normalcy.

Wound care has been determined to be essential for the community. The care and services provided include treatment for diabetic foot ulcers, PAD associated with sores, wounds and ulcers, and advanced wound care.

Healogics’ data has shown that patients suffering from untreated wounds are 20 times more likely to end up in an emergency room or admitted to the hospital. To help patients with wounds avoid emergency care, both Charlton Memorial Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital Wound Care Center(s) have implemented measures to continue to provide the support needed to care for patients who need advanced treatments and services during this crisis.

Southcoast’s Wound Care Center continually achieves recognition for exceptional patient care

Award Measures Include:

Proactive Patient Communications – Southcoast clinical teams are reaching out to patients regarding treatment adherence and working with them to help with flexible appointment scheduling options and to balance patient volumes throughout the day to limit crowded waiting rooms.

Community Education for Physicians – Southcoast is continuing to communicate with our referring providers in light of limited access due to COVID-19 related office visit restrictions.

The Wound Care Center team understands the importance of remaining vigilant and safe, and to that end, has taken steps to provide a safe place for our patients to receive care.

“This recognition is especially important this year as we strived to deliver compassionate quality care while providing a positive patient experience during the pandemic. The staff was dedicated to keeping our patients well cared for during this challenging time,” said Cheryl Thompson, RN, Program Director. “I am extremely proud of my teams’ commitment to excellence as we have demonstrated achievement in these quality measures year over year. We are honored to serve the patients in our community by offering them a unique approach in managing their chronic wounds.”

There are hundreds of people in the south coast community living with a chronic wound. Southcoast Health provides wound care and treatment in Fall River, MA, at Charlton Memorial Hospital and New Bedford, MA, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
