Southcoast Health launches ‘More than Medicine’ podcast

Early episodes of wellness series will feature cardiologist, gastroenterologist, dietitians
Southcoast Health’s new podcast, More than Medicine, debuts this week with a focus on health and wellness topics, featuring Southcoast Health providers, patients and staff, the community healthcare system announced.
The initial episodes include topics such as healthy eating tips, reducing your risk for heart disease and understanding weight loss surgery. A regular schedule of upcoming episodes will cover topics like preventing colon cancer and what parents should know about teens and vaping.
“We’re always looking for creative opportunities to equip our patients and residents of the region with the tools needed for prevention, sustained good health and improved outcomes,” said Keith Hovan, President and CEO of Southcoast Health. “Our nurses and physicians are leaders in their fields, and this podcast offers even more people access to their expertise and recommendations – all conveniently available during commutes, workouts and everyday activities.”
Among the first episodes to be released will be an analysis of the silent dangers of heart disease in recognition of National Heart Month. Dr. Nosheen Javed, a Southcoast Health interventional cardiologist at the Cardiovascular Care Center at Charlton Memorial Hospital, will discuss why women have different symptoms than men when it comes to heart attacks and what people can do to prevent heart disease.
“As much as heart disease is the biggest killer, the most advances in the U.S. in terms of improving outcomes have also been in heart disease,” said Dr. Javed. “We used to have very high mortality rates from heart disease, and then over the years, they have been dropping because of the availability of good therapies, most of which we have here at Southcoast.”
Southcoast Health will also invite listeners to suggest topics and offer health and wellness Q&As during future podcasts via comments on Southcoast Health social media channels and submission through Southcoast.org.
