O processo de sele\u00e7\u00e3o para este programa \u00e9 altamente competitivo e Dr. O'Donnell<\/a> foi um dos cinco cirurgi\u00f5es internacionais convidados a participar, representando n\u00e3o s\u00f3 a Southcoast Health, mas tamb\u00e9m os Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ao longo do programa, que teve in\u00edcio em Vancouver, no Canad\u00e1, na Reuni\u00e3o Anual da Sociedade Americana de Ortopedia do P\u00e9 e Tornozelo<\/a>Durante o per\u00edodo da bolsa, os participantes foram acolhidos por professores de renome na \u00e1rea do p\u00e9 e tornozelo em tr\u00eas institui\u00e7\u00f5es acad\u00e9micas: Universidade de Stanford, Universidade do Colorado e Universidade da Calif\u00f3rnia - Davis. Enquanto passavam algum tempo nas salas de opera\u00e7\u00f5es, cl\u00ednicas e confer\u00eancias, estas visitas encorajavam o estabelecimento de contactos e a discuss\u00e3o de casos complexos de doentes e investiga\u00e7\u00e3o cl\u00ednica individual. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Uma grande conclus\u00e3o para mim foi que os cuidados com o p\u00e9 e o tornozelo que oferecemos na Southcoast Health est\u00e3o ao n\u00edvel das institui\u00e7\u00f5es acad\u00e9micas das grandes cidades. Estou orgulhoso por j\u00e1 estarmos a prestar estes cuidados de n\u00edvel superior aos membros da nossa comunidade.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A cirurgia do p\u00e9 e do tornozelo \u00e9 uma parte especializada dos cuidados ortop\u00e9dicos centrada no diagn\u00f3stico e tratamento de doen\u00e7as m\u00fasculo-esquel\u00e9ticas que afectam os ossos, as articula\u00e7\u00f5es, os ligamentos, os tend\u00f5es e os m\u00fasculos do p\u00e9 e do tornozelo. Esta \u00e1rea trata de fracturas, artrite, entorses, deformidades (como p\u00e9s chatos, joanetes e dedos em martelo), les\u00f5es desportivas e necessidades reconstrutivas de doentes de todas as idades e actividades.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como parte da experi\u00eancia, o Dr. O'Donnell mergulhou nas mais recentes t\u00e9cnicas e pesquisas cir\u00fargicas. Ele espera trazer o que aprendeu para outras pessoas na Southcoast Health e conectar ainda mais o sistema com uma rede global de especialistas, expandindo recursos e conhecimento de maneiras que beneficiar\u00e3o muito nossos pacientes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Viajar com cirurgi\u00f5es experientes do Brasil, It\u00e1lia, Jap\u00e3o e Coreia do Sul foi uma experi\u00eancia \u00fanica na minha carreira. Foi estimulante ver as diferen\u00e7as na forma como cada um de n\u00f3s abordou casos semelhantes e a tecnologia dispon\u00edvel nas institui\u00e7\u00f5es anfitri\u00e3s. Estas discuss\u00f5es mostraram que existem muitas formas de alcan\u00e7ar o mesmo resultado\", afirmou o Dr. O'Donnell. \"Foi uma experi\u00eancia de aprendizagem muito pr\u00e1tica e envolvente, muito diferente da aprendizagem atrav\u00e9s da participa\u00e7\u00e3o em reuni\u00f5es ou da leitura de revistas.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
