Mary Ann Rogers: 55 Years, Countless Eras, One Incredible Legacy

Long before Taylor Swift kicked off her Eras Tour, Mary Ann Rogers had hers — spanning 55 years at Southcoast Health. A career that began at just 17 years old has evolved and grown through decades of change and growth. Now, as the first feature in our Southcoast Eras Tour, we celebrate Mary Ann’s journey!

Mary Ann’s first era was in dietary services, working 24 hours a week while earning benefits, a remarkable opportunity for a teenager just starting out. But that was only the beginning. From there, she stepped into the role of ward clerk, and then took on Emergency Department registration, where intake forms were typed on triplicate paper, and frequent patients had their information stored on Rolodex cards.

As Southcoast Health evolved, so did she. She became Admitting Supervisor, then became the Patient Access Manager for the Surgery Center, later moving on to Inpatient and Outpatient Registration at St. Luke’s Hospital Campus.  She also witnessed the transition from manual paperwork to automated systems like IBM and Meditech. After 20+ years in leadership, Mary Ann was ready for a new challenge.

Her next Southcoast Era took her into IT Project Management, where she played a key role in implementing EPIC system-wide, a career highlight that shaped the way Southcoast Health operates today. Even after retiring in 2018, her commitment to patient care never wavered. She still works per diem with Patient Access, proving that some eras never truly end.
