From Pharmacy Student to Supply Chain Leader: A Journey of Growth and Adaptation

More than twenty years ago, a young pharmacy student, Virginia (Ginny) Camisa, walked into Charlton Memorial Hospital, eager to learn, unaware that this place would become the foundation for an unexpected and fulfilling career path at Southcoast Health.

After Ginny began as a staff pharmacist in 2006, transitioning into leadership wasn’t something initially planned, but rather a natural progression. With a keen eye for problem solving, an ability to anticipate issues before they arose, and a drive to create efficiency, the shift from clinical work to the business side of pharmacy felt surprisingly right.

By 2015, Ginny had moved into a leadership role. As one of the few trained in running department reports, a skill that remains rare today, the foundation was laid for a broader role. Today, as the Pharmacy Informatics and Supply Chain Manager, her role is vast and dynamic. Overseeing multiple buyers across different locations, managing automated dispensing systems, coordinating specialty pharmacy medications, and navigating the ever-changing landscape of drug and IV fluid shortages — every day presents a new challenge.

Looking back, Ginny admits she’s still surprised that she’s on the business side of pharmacy versus the clinical. It’s remarkable to see the transformation — not just in title, but in perspective as well. It’s proof that growth often happens in unexpected ways, and sometimes, the best moves are the ones you never saw coming.
