Cada a\u00f1o se diagnostica alg\u00fan tipo de c\u00e1ncer de piel a miles de estadounidenses. El melanoma s\u00f3lo representa el 2% de los diagn\u00f3sticos, pero es la causa de la mayor parte de las muertes por c\u00e1ncer de piel, debido a su gravedad y a su r\u00e1pido crecimiento. El melanoma puede tratarse con \u00e9xito si se detecta a tiempo mediante una prueba de detecci\u00f3n del c\u00e1ncer de piel. Aqu\u00ed, en Southcoast Health, ofrecemos consultas y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southcoast.org\/es\/screen-me\/\">pruebas de detecci\u00f3n<\/a> de nuestros dermat\u00f3logos para ayudar en la detecci\u00f3n precoz y el tratamiento del melanoma.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el melanoma?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/library.southcoast.org\/Search\/35,FAQSkinCancerMelanoma\">Melanoma<\/a> es un tipo de c\u00e1ncer de piel que se origina en las c\u00e9lulas cut\u00e1neas (melanocitos) que producen melanina, el pigmento que da color a la piel. Las c\u00e9lulas del melanoma pueden seguir produciendo melanina, que es lo que causa los lunares marrones o negros en la piel. El melanoma es m\u00e1s raro que otros tipos de c\u00e1ncer de piel, pero tiende a extenderse r\u00e1pidamente y es responsable de casi todas las muertes por c\u00e1ncer de piel.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Factores de riesgo del c\u00e1ncer de melanoma<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Algunas personas son m\u00e1s propensas a desarrollar un melanoma debido a determinados factores de riesgo personales y ambientales, entre los que se incluyen los siguientes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exposici\u00f3n a la luz ultravioleta (UV): es el mayor factor de riesgo de c\u00e1ncer de piel. La luz solar es la principal fuente de estos rayos, pero tambi\u00e9n pueden encontrarse en las camas de bronceado y las l\u00e1mparas solares.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lunares: los lunares son en realidad tumores no cancerosos de la piel. La probabilidad de que un lunar preexistente se convierta en canceroso es baja, pero las personas con muchos lunares irregulares o grandes tienen un mayor riesgo de desarrollar un melanoma.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raza cauc\u00e1sica<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antecedentes familiares o personales de c\u00e1ncer de piel<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Edad avanzada<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sistema inmunitario debilitado<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lamentablemente, las tasas de melanoma han aumentado en los \u00faltimos 30 a\u00f1os. Actualmente se desconoce el motivo, pero las tasas de diagn\u00f3stico han aumentado entre la poblaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s joven. Es importante que vigile los lunares que tenga para ver si cambian con el tiempo, y que se ponga siempre protecci\u00f3n solar antes de salir al exterior. Recuerde: los rayos UV del sol son igual de intensos en invierno y en un d\u00eda nublado que en pleno verano. Para estar seguro, utiliza siempre protecci\u00f3n solar y cuida tu piel durante todo el a\u00f1o.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Cu\u00e1ndo acudir al m\u00e9dico por un melanoma<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En su revisi\u00f3n anual, es importante que repase con su m\u00e9dico cualquier lunar nuevo que haya aparecido en su piel, as\u00ed como cualquier lunar que haya cambiado con el tiempo. Debe concertar una cita con su dermat\u00f3logo si encuentra un lunar que parece anormal.
