Dr. Rivera earned his medical degree at Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed two surgery preliminary years at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y.

He also completed anesthesiology specialty and pain management subspecialty training through Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

He is fluent in English and Spanish.

  • I am overall pleased with my experience, Dr. Rivera and his team are extremely professional.

  • When I checked in the receptionist told me I had a different insurance than I did. I told her the insurance that I had. She said that it was also noted on the screen but as a secondary insurance. She ASKED me what my copay was and I told her. Then she said I had a credit which I don’t. At this point I was standing a substantial amount of time and I asked her if She could check into it and I could pay her on the way out. She said yes. On the way out the was a patient at the desk who was also having an issue with this lady to the tune of about 45 minutes. She was waiting to see a provider. When I FINALLY got to the desk I had to explain the situation all over again, then she had to go ask her supervisor. She then came back and said””Yes, you will have to pay that today. “ I was always planning on that. I spent over an hour and a half on this issue between resolving it and waiting. It was a simple process of verifying information and making payment. It should have taken 2 minutes. Meanwhile, for more than I was comfortably able, I was forced to stand. AND I was at the pain dr. She should not be in a position where she doesn’t know what she is doing. It wasn’t just me. She could handle the woman who was in front of me when I came out, either.

  • The Doctor did ask and answer questions regarding my pain issues and my bone problems. He has followed my case for several years now and had relayed the possible side effects and developments . This has allowed me to have certain options and to expect what I may be up against in the future.

  • The only area that needs improvement would be the attitude of the people who check you in. They don't smile, they make you feel like you are imposing on their time, just not a pleasant greeting. Once in the actual office - the woman who work at the inner desk (scheduling, etc) are very friendly and pleasant. If this could just be the interaction with the receptionists when you first enter - this place would be A+++!

  • Spent 10 minutes past my appt. in the waiting room, then another half an hour once in the ‘inner sanctum’. Unacceptable. And it was one of the first appts. ........pity those who came later in the day! They probably waited an hour!

  • Get rid of the chairs in the waiting room and the exam rooms, if you have back issues the chairs make it flair up, I cannot set in them to long, I have very bad sciatica pain. Thanks for your time.

  • I've been seeing Dr. Rivera-Colon for @ 10 years now. I continue to see him because of the excellent care he provides for me, the understanding he shows for my pain and concerns, and his ability to talk to me without jargon I would not understand. I couldn't be happier.But, the staff at Southcoast is also par to none. We've gotten to know each other over the years. It's almost like we're friends. They go above and beyond in helping me schedule appointments and follow-ups. They are simply the BEST! Sincerely, [Name]

  • The doctor and the staff were great. Other than hot coffee or tea lol I have no suggestions

  • I had an appt. at 8:10 a.m. The Dr. didn't see me until 8:35. Therefore I was late for work. If you aren't going to keep the appt for the time you scheduled then schedule it for when the doctor can see me.

  • most doctor appointments i find myself waiting for 30-40 minutes after the appointment time was set just to go wait in a room, i was seen at the time of my appointment everyone was professional and friendly

  • The ride off the Cape was well worth it. These are great providers. I love our pain management doctor, Dr. Rivera. I have recommended him to everyone I know that has pain and does not like their Cape Cod doctor. You need NO improvements.

  • Stop asking for information that is already in the computer. This happens no matter we go and what physician we see. It gets very frustrating, especially handing out paperwork to fill in. Stop killing trees!

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Helpfulness of Clerks & Receptionists, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
