About Emiko Ishihara

Dr. Ishihara earned her undergraduate degree from Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT and completed a Post-Baccalaureate Health Profession Program at the University of California in Berkley, CA.  She earned her degree in Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, IA.  Dr. Ishihara earned a Master of Public Health in Population Medicine and completed her residency in Family and Preventive Medicine at Loma University in Loma Linda, CA.

Dr. Ishihara is board eligible by the American Board of Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine. She also holds certification in Lifestyle Medicine Core Competency and X (Suboxone) Waiver.

While in residency training, Dr. Ishihara was the founder of several programs; Employee Wellness Program and the Farmers Market Advisory Committee at SACHS (FQHC) Clinic in San Bernardino, CA, Family Preventive Medicine Livin’ It Program at Loma University and the Loma Linda Osteopathic Group.

Her clinical interests include palliative and hospice care, employee wellness programs, HIV/AIDS management, weight management and diabetes prevention, osteopathic manipulation, acupressure and lifestyle medicine. In her spare time she enjoys yoga, opera, fine teas, and creative play with her daughter.

It is her mission:  “To practice whole-person care for all patients through personalized holistic medicine, advocacy, and community engagement.”

  • The appointment seemed rushed and maybe not as thorough as I would expect it to be. Unfortunately, due to an error made during a procedure at my last appointment, I was supposed to get the same procedure/test again. I was unaware of this until I was at my appointment. So I was unable to have the procedure/test due to a change in insurance coverage. It is unfortunate that even though the error was out of my control, I am unable to receive the same procedure/test without having to pay again.

  • I love my Dr. I. She is truly interested in making sure all my needs are met and together we are working on them.

Can always talk to somebody and before my appointment with Dr. Ishihara. There was a smooth call beforehand and checked me in. So there's, there's never any issue when it comes time for the tele health visit. So I can only say good things.

  • Dr. Ishihara and her staff were respectful, thorough, and conscientious (sent timely automated reminders, and called me when my insurance listed the wrong PCP). Dr. Ishihara started the appointment on time (UNHEARD of in my experience with practitioners). She was very gracious, curious, and kind about my extensive, unusual medical history. She was patient and generous with her time, despite that we ran over and that I was verbose. I wish I'd fired my last PCP years ago and began working with Dr. Ishihara much sooner. Thank you for a fantastic, encouraging experience. Given my traumatic medical history and medical anxiety, this telehealth appointment could not have gone better.

  • I waited 25 minutes in the exam room between when the doctor's assistant asked me the preliminary questions and the doctor came in. Shortening my wait time would have been appreciated.

  • Dr. Ishihara is extremely thorough and understanding. She is an expert about natural wholesome treatment and care which I truly appreciate due to my fear in chemical components in all medications. She recommends everything natural including plants based calcium. Very impressive! She does not talk about costs of new medications since she knew they are covered by insurance because of my symptoms I guess. Thank you very much for excellence and professionalism with humbleness.

  • Dr Ishahara is awesome! The check out receptionist was good. The girl that checked me in from the hallway because of COVID could have been a little better. She was a little gruff. Felt the tech moved alittle fast. I’m sure it’s the get them in get them out mentality that is taught throughout medical. Dr Ishahara never seemed to rush. I would recommend her.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
