About Alvin Marcovici

Dr. Marcovici is a neurological surgeon in practice with Southcoast Neurosurgery. He is on the medical staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

A graduate of Yale University School of Medicine, he completed his neurosurgical residency at the Albert Einstein College and fellowship training in reconstructive spinal surgery at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, with a special emphasis on spinal deformity, including scoliosis.

He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons as well as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

In conjunction with complex spine surgery, Dr. Marcovici has a special interest in brain tumors, cerebrovascular surgery, epilepsy and pituitary tumors.

He is board certified in neurological surgery.

  • Yes, this is (INAUDIBLE) and Dr. Marcovici is, he's like one of my most favorite doctors. This last visit he really listened to me and showed great concern, and I know he believed that I was in great pain in the evening it gets worse. So we've come up with a plan and I didn't think he would go for it, but he did and I'm so happy and hopefully this will work for me. That's it.

  • We had a fairly short visit with Dr. Marcovici but that's because the analysis was quick: my MRI indicated I did not have a pinched nerve as proposed by Dr. [Name] and that surgery was not a necessary route to take for my problem. But he then took me to the next level by recommending a neurologist to further test my condition and explained a little bit of that. I like this doc and felt his quick diagnosis and recommendation was quite appropriate.

He was honest and suggested we try least invasive procedure first where other doctors wanted to get out the drilling equipment and lay me up for months. He comes with the best recommendation from my pain doctor, [Name] [Name]

  • I was late due to going to the wrong building, the staff and doctor were accommodating, and very nice about the whole thing. The doctor answered questions, showed me on the mri the problems, and directed me towards physical therapy and getting better.

  • Yes, My experience was I went in I was on time for my appointment and I ended up waiting almost an hour that was because the doctor was on call for emergencies. Well, I'm sorry, but if he's on call for emergencies, I don't think that day or that week or whatever he's on call for he should be taking care of patients because he was back and forth apparently he apologized and everything, but I don't think he really had the time to over look my everything he needed to look right now it's too much for me to be talking because I rather talk face to face. That's it. Thank you.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
