About Alvin Marcovici

Dr. Marcovici is a neurological surgeon in practice with Southcoast Neurosurgery. He is on the medical staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

A graduate of Yale University School of Medicine, he completed his neurosurgical residency at the Albert Einstein College and fellowship training in reconstructive spinal surgery at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, with a special emphasis on spinal deformity, including scoliosis.

He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons as well as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

In conjunction with complex spine surgery, Dr. Marcovici has a special interest in brain tumors, cerebrovascular surgery, epilepsy and pituitary tumors.

He is board certified in neurological surgery.

  • Okay. I saw Dr. Marcovici today and January 25th. I spoke to him about my neck having severe pain and everything else referring me back to my primary care for pain management and when I ask you a couple of questions about, you know, if I needed surgery down the road that you know, what would be the length of time approximately to do the operation and what would be, you know, not definitive probably time of recovery, and he actually just never answer that. He kind of blew me off. So that's why I gave the ratings that I did. Other than that. He was gentleman. He didn't listen somewhat but not to my satisfaction and you know as far as you know, he's a great guy and everything else and I just wish that he was more attentive, professionalism absolutely a 9. Thank you.

  • Everything was wonderful I felt comfortable and the doctor was amazing his bedside manner was very good very considerate and compassionate about my neck and felt out very comfortable and I thank him very much and your staff

  • They have a good medical staff. They are very professional and ethical. They just need to improve when it comes to reception. The staff doesn't speak Spanish.

  • They were accurate at letting me know I had a wait time because the chief surgeon was in with my doctor Dr. Marcovici. Dr. Marcovici's great because he explains things and he goes into steps of the importance of your recovery and what you need to do. And he's just awesome.

  • First visit with this office. Receptionist was rude and seemed to be reading from a script. Although it was explained to her that my mother had dementia and needed to have me with her for the visit, the receptionist continued talking to my mother to get personal info. Doctor was prompt, very personable.

  • Yes, this is (INAUDIBLE) and Dr. Marcovici is, he's like one of my most favorite doctors. This last visit he really listened to me and showed great concern, and I know he believed that I was in great pain in the evening it gets worse. So we've come up with a plan and I didn't think he would go for it, but he did and I'm so happy and hopefully this will work for me. That's it.

I had a day where I waited all day for a phone call and that never got it from [Name] I can't think of the last name, but for some reason the the phone service or whatever wasn't working well, but with Dr. Marcovici, everything was perfect and very happy to have them as my provider. Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
