At home COVID-19 tests are available at pharmacy locations and at covid.gov/tests.
As a reminder, Southcoast pre-surgical patients who are not being admitted post-surgery DO NOT require PCR testing and should perform a home test as directed by their provider.
Pre-surgery patients who will be admitted to the hospital post-surgery should be scheduled for PCR testing 48-72 hours prior to the surgery.

Booster Information

Southcoast Health is now providing the Bivalent COVID-19 booster for eligible individuals
As of September 1, the bivalent COVID-19 boosters from Pfizer and Moderna were authorized by the FDA and recommended by the CDC. The new boosters are now available in Massachusetts and at Southcoast Health. These vaccines provide better protection against the Omicron variant.
The bivalent COVID-19 boosters are updated versions of the original vaccines. You do not need to receive an updated booster from the same manufacturer as your original COVID-19 vaccine or most recent booster.
- Anyone age 6 years and up who has received a booster dose, or completed a vaccine series more than 2 months ago is encouraged to receive a bivalent booster vaccine.
- There are different recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters for those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.
- The FDA and CDC approved a second bivalent booster for individuals over 65 years old and those who are immunocompromised as long as it has been 4 months since the last booster.
According to the FDA, a single booster dose with an updated bivalent COVID-19 vaccine will provide broad protection against COVID-19 and better protection against illness caused by the Omicron variant.
If you are interested in receiving a booster, you can book an appointment for a free vaccine shot through MyChart or through our online COVID-19 vaccine-scheduling portal above.
Mix-and-match Vaccines
There are now booster recommendations for all three available COVID-19 vaccines in the United States. Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received and others, may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.

Vaccination Consent for individuals under 18
A legally authorized representative (usually a parent or guardian) must give permission (also called consent) for vaccination for someone under the age of 18, such as by completing a written consent form that the minor (the person under the age of 18) can bring to their vaccination appointment. We require all individuals under 18, unaccompanied by a parent or guardian, to download a copy of the consent form, have it signed, and show proof upon vaccination appointment.
The parent or guardian does not need to go with the minor to their vaccination appointment to give consent.
COVID-19 Vaccination Updates, Guides & Resources
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending COVID-19 vaccination for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to get pregnant now, or might become pregnant in the future. More information is available on CDC.gov: COVID-19 Vaccines While Pregnant or Breastfeeding.
Thank you for your trust, patience, and support, and please stay tuned to this page for updates. If you are pregnant or were recently pregnant you are:
- More likely to get very sick from COVID-19 compared to people who are not pregnant. People who get very sick from COVID-19 may require hospitalization, admission to an intensive care unit (ICU), or use of a ventilator or special equipment to breathe.
- Getting a COVID-19 vaccine can help protect you and your baby from serious health problems from COVID-19.
- The CDC recommends you should stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines, including getting a COVID-19 booster shot when it’s time to get one.
