New! | Current open volunteer positions
Each year, volunteers of all ages donate thousands of hours of service to Southcoast's three hospitals. A number of opportunities exist, and volunteering at your local community hospital can be a fun and rewarding experience.
Volunteers are a very important and appreciated part of the Southcoast team. Volunteers help the staff at all three hospitals — Charlton, St. Luke's and Tobey — keep on top of the many tasks that need to be completed each day.
When it comes to volunteering, there's always something to do — and something that will interest just about anyone. And whether you wish to spend an hour or a day or your whole week, there's plenty of exciting things to do.
And best of all, you'll experience the reward of knowing you're helping your neighbors.

Volunteering at Southcoast's Hospice & Palliative Care program
| |
The volunteers supplement the professional services offered by the Southcoast Hospice & Palliative Care Staff. They may simply sit with a patient or hold a patient's hand in a home, nursing home or hospital setting. Running errands, helping with meal preparation or encouraging patients to tell their life story, providing time for the caregivers to take care of her/himself, can be very supportive.
Our volunteers participate in a training program that includes the philosophy of hospice care, physical, emotional, social and spiritual issues that people can encounter at the end of life, effective communication skills and basic information about grief and loss. Volunteers are provided with continuing education and training.
