A new era in health care has arrived at Tobey Hospital with the completion of a $12 million expansion and new construction project that brings advanced surgical services to you, your family and your neighbors.

The new Tobey combines some of the most high-tech equipment and facilities found anywhere in Massachusetts, bringing superior medical facilities closer to home for patients of the Greater Wareham region.

"The new Tobey delivers on Southcoast's promise to respond to the specific growing health care needs of the people who count on Tobey for their health care," said John B. Day, President & CEO of Southcoast Health System.

The renovations at Tobey give the community access to the best possible health care available.

"At Southcoast we believe that the most important medicine happens right here in our communities," said Ronald Goodspeed, MD, MPH, President of Southcoast Hospitals Group. "True to its legacy, Tobey will continue filling the health care needs that grow in complexity as medical knowledge rapidly advances."

The Tobey Hospital expansion and construction project includes three major components — a new surgical wing and highly sophisticated intensive care and post-anesthesia care (recovery room) units.

The new surgical wing features three state-of-the-art operating rooms. Space for the extensive new technology, monitors and cameras that are required for current complex surgeries was integral to their design.

"The new facility will allow us to continue providing the high-quality, progressive care the community expects in a more efficient and sophisticated manner," said John Scheub, MD, Chief Anesthesiologist at Tobey and President of the hospital's medical staff.

John A. Conway, MD, a pediatrician at Tobey Hospital has been practicing in Wareham for the past 26 years, has watched the community grow as well as the need for advanced health care services.

"The new surgical and intensive care units represent one of the most exciting and innovative medical developments in Tobey's history," Dr. Conway said. "Our patients and their families deserve to have the best care available by physicians of the highest caliber — while utilizing the most modern technology available."
