In the ER, we see it all — heart attacks, belly pain, car accidents, sports injuries ... you name it.
But instead of seeing patients by appointment, we work by triage — which means priority — and emergencies that threaten loss of life or limb always have top priority.
I feel bad for patients when the ER gets backed up or when others are pushed ahead of them, because I know how hard it is to wait. Each nurse may take care of several patients at once, but no matter what their problems are, we care about each and every one of them.
