Bicycle Safety

Bicycling is great exercise and a terrific way to explore. Be sure to wear a helmet that fits properly, since more than 80 percent of all bicycle-related injuries and deaths are caused by accidents which involve impact to the head.

To protect yourself:

  • Make sure your helmet meets proper safety standards.

  • Wear the helmet on top of your head. It should be no more than two fingers from the top of your eyebrow.

  • Obey the rules of the road.

  • Don't wear headphones.

  • NEVER let children ride at rusk or night.

  • If you must ride at dusk or night, wear reflective clothing, be sure your bike has properly positioned reflectors and an adequate headlight and taillight. And ride with caution.

And remember, any skater suffering a significant blow to the head should seek immediate medical attention.
