World-class care for your kids
Our team of Boston Children's physicians offers round-the-clock, on-site pediatric inpatient care and is working with local emergency medicine providers in the newly customized pediatric area in the emergency department at St. Luke's Hospital.
Inpatient care at St. Luke's
The newly renovated inpatient pediatric unit at St. Luke's Hospital features:
- Dedicated inpatient pediatric beds.
- Family rooming-in accommodations.
- A comfortable space on the inpatient unit, offering toys and games for kids and families.
St. Luke's emergency department offers a full range of resources to quickly and effectively care for your child. We have a newly renovated waiting area and treatment space for children within the emergency department, so our smallest patients can receive the special emergency care they need in a comfortable and safe environment.
As always, excellent emergency care for children is also available at Tobey Hospital in Wareham and Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. The emergency physicians at these locations can consult remotely with the Boston Children's physicians at any time. If a child arriving at Tobey or Charlton Memorial needs to be hospitalized, he or she may be transferred to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.
Child Life Services
A visit to the hospital can be scary for a child. With that in mind, St. Luke's Hospital has a Child Life Specialist dedicated to helping make a hospital visit easier for children of all ages and their families.
The Child Life Specialist helps children understand what is going on around them, offers support during medical tests or stressful experiences, and creates time for fun and play to help children feel more comfortable in the hospital.
Boston Children's physicians at St. Luke's Hospital are not only able to provide on-site care—they can consult with other Boston Children's physicians and specialists. For example, a child's radiology images and other medical documents can be sent electronically to Boston in the event that they need to be transferred to Boston.
