Southcoast teams up with local YMCAs to offer monthly presentations on important health topics

April series to focus on concussion education.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Southcoast® Health System, in partnership with the Gleason Family YMCA, the New Bedford YMCA and the Bayside YMCA presents a monthly series focused on helping you and your family live a healthier lifestyle. The free health education program is designed to help you make healthier decisions and support your well-being.

Presentations will take place at each of the YMCA locations throughout the month with topics focusing on important health issues and will be presented by a Southcoast specialist with expertise in that field of medicine. The April series will be led by Joseph Scott, MS LAT, CEAS I-Licensed Athletic Trainer and Manager Occupation Health-Ergonomics/Injury Prevention and Kathleen Thornton MS LAT- PES-Licensed Athletic Trainer/Injury Prevention Specialist. The focus for this series is concussion education and will cover topics including recognizing the signs and symptoms of a concussion, guidelines for managing a concussion, information on the risks and consequences of not taking action and an overview of the 2010 concussion education law.
