Southcoast VNA is currently seeking volunteers for Camp Angel Wings
A two-day bereavement camp to be held on July 12 and 13
FAIRHAVEN, Mass. — Southcoast® Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) is currently seeking volunteers for its 11th annual bereavement camp, "Camp Angel Wings," in July. This is a fun-filled, two-day camp experience for children ages 6 through 15, who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The camp will be held on July 12 and 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Camp Welch in Assonet.
In order to participate, volunteers must meet the following requirements:
- Complete and submit volunteer application as soon as possible but no later than June 9
- Provide two references
- Undergo successful state background check
In addition, all volunteers will need to complete volunteer training, which will be provided by Southcoast VNA. The responsibilities of the volunteer will be to serve as camp counselor to a group of 6 to 7 children (requires a commitment to the entire weekend), or to lead or assist with grief activities such as grief walk, petting zoo, arts and crafts, planting flowers, and decorating masks, photo frames and memory boxes. Camp Angel Wings uses various interactive activities to help campers share their loss, and memorialize loved ones. All activities are designed to reduce feelings of isolation while improving the self-esteem of children and teens who share like experiences in grief.
Those interested in volunteering should contact Lindsay Coe, Camp Coordinator at 508-973-3219 or firstname.lastname@example.org. To find out more about Camp Angel Wings, visit the Southcoast website at http://www.southcoast.org/vna/camp.html#volunteers.
