Patrick Nugent, MD, joins Southcoast Physicians Group as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology

NEW BEDFORD, Mass - Southcoast® Health System announced today that Patrick J. Nugent, MD, has joined Southcoast Physicians Group as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In his new role, Dr. Nugent will lead the obstetricians and gynecologists at St. Luke’s Hospital, Charlton Memorial Hospital and Tobey Hospital in achieving and maintaining best practice and Center of Excellence designations. In collaboration with physicians and staff, Dr. Nugent will work to optimize clinical outcomes and cost management through the focus of evidence based practice, state of the art technology, quality and efficiency.

Dr. Nugent is an expert clinician, mentor and teacher. He has been clinically active for over two decades, practicing inpatient high-risk obstetrics and all aspects of women’s care. Additionally, Dr. Nugent has served as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in several locations around the country including the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colo., Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Conn., and the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I. over the past 24 years.

Dr. Nugent holds a Doctorate of Medicine from the Penn State Milton S. Hershey School Medical Center in Hershey, Pa. and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, R.I.

Dr. Nugent is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and serves as an expert reviewer for the boards of registration in medicine for both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He lives in Fairhaven with his wife Linda.
