Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital announces 2013-2014 scholarship winners

FALL RIVER, Mass. — The Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital recently announced $5,000 in scholarship awards for individuals who are pursuing a career in health care.

The Auxiliary presented five $1,000 scholarship awards to area high school seniors during its annual Scholarship Luncheon held on June 5, at Bittersweet Farm in Westport.

This year, two of the four scholarships were presented by Michael Bachstein, Vice President of Support Services for Southcoast Health System, in memory of his mother, Tamara Bachstein.

The 2013-2014 Scholarship winners are:

  • Briana Lynn Cabral, a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, who will attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy to pursue a career in nursing.
  • Justine Cabral, a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, who will attend Rhode Island College to pursue a career in nursing.
  • Tiffany Devanish, a graduate of Bishop Connolly High School, who will attend Providence College to pursue a career as a pediatrician.
  • Nicole Dion, a graduate of Apponequet Regional High School, who will attend the University of New England to pursue a career in nursing.
  • Austin Moniz, a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, who will attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy to pursue a career as a pharmacist.

“We are extremely pleased with this year’s finalists,” said Auxiliary President, Louise McCarthy, President of the Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital. “We wish them success in their chosen field of study.”

The Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to render service to Charlton Memorial Hospital, its tax-exempt subsidiaries, its patients and to assist in promoting the health and welfare of the community. The Auxiliary raises money throughout the year by hosting fundraisers, a spring gala, raffles, and jewelry and apparel sales.
