Wareham Orthopedic Associates join Southcoast Physicians Group

WAREHAM, Mass. — Wareham Orthopedic Associates has joined Southcoast™ Physicians Group, one of the largest networks of primary and specialty care physicians in the region, and part of Southcoast Health System. The orthopedic practice includes Stephen A. Heacox, MD, Matthew S. Baltz, MD, and Christian H. Dee, MD.

As part of the merger, Wareham Orthopedic Associates will now be recognized as Southcoast Physicians Group at Wareham Orthopedics. The transition to Southcoast Physicians Group will be seamless for patients, requiring no action on their part.

Southcoast Physicians Group at Wareham Orthopedics will continue to offer patients the latest diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical techniques to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions while offering in-office X-rays, onsite physical therapy, fittings and instruction for custom bracing and orthotics.

Stephen A. Heacox, MD

Stephen A. Heacox, MD, earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa., and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Heacox completed an internship in general surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pa., and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Heacox has practiced orthopedics with Wareham Orthopedic Associates since 1984. He previously served as Chair of the Department of Surgery and Medical Staff President at Tobey Hospital.

Dr. Heacox is board certified in orthopedic surgery and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Massachusetts Medical Society. He has served as a trustee of Southcoast Health System from 1996 to 2011.

Matthew S. Baltz, MD

Matthew S. Baltz, MD, is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H., and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Conn. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., after which he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. He is a former Chair of the Department of Surgery at Tobey Hospital.

Dr. Baltz is board certified in orthopedic surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. He previously served as an assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Northeastern University and is currently a team physician for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Wareham Gatemen, as well as the orthopedic consultant to the Tobey Hospital site of Southcoast Rehabilitation Services. His areas of interest include knee, shoulder and ankle arthroscopy, as well as, hand surgery, sports injuries and general fracture care.

Christian H. Dee, MD

Christian H. Dee, MD, graduated with honors from the University of Wales (U.K.) with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Leicester University Medical School (U.K.), and then completed an internship in general surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery.

After completing fellowship training in spinal surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Dee moved back home to New England. He spent 12 years in private practice in Connecticut treating patients with a variety of orthopedic conditions including knee, hip and upper extremity problems resulting from work related injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome. Dr. Dee performs the most current arthroscopic and total joint procedures.

Dr. Dee is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery.
