April edition of Southcoast's "Take a Walk with a Southcoast Doc" monthly walking program re-scheduled for April 27
New Bedford walk to be led by Jessica Inwood, MD, family practice physician
Southcoast physicians want to help guide you on the path to good health with a monthly walking program that is designed to get people up, moving and enjoying some beautiful walks throughout the South Coast region.
"Take a Walk with a Southcoast Doc" will take place on Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at Fort Taber Park located at 1000C South Rodney French Boulevard in New Bedford. The walk will kick off from the steps of the Fort Taber~Fort Rodman Military Museum (the first building on the left when you enter the park).
This month's walk will be led by Dr. Inwood, family practice physician with Southcoast Physicians Group Family Medicine in Fall River. Dr. Inwood will be accompanied by Robert Bromley, Vice President and Curator of Fort Taber~Fort Rodman Historical Association Inc. and Military Museum. Bromley will discuss the military history of Fort Taber Park and its many landmarks during the walk.
"Taking a brisk walk can do wonders for your heath," Dr. Inwood said. "In fact, walking just 30 minutes a day can decrease your risk of many health problems including heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Join us on April 27 as we walk one of New Bedford's largest parks and improve your health at the same time!"
Fort Taber Park is located on Clark's Point at New Bedford's southern-most tip. The 47-acre park important historical landmarks, as the site's former use as a military reservation dates back to the Revolutionary War.
All ages and levels of walking ability are welcome. Participants will receive a free pedometer and "Better Health Kits" that include information on nutrition and exercise. Registration is encouraged. To register call the Southcoast Wellness Line at 800-497-1727.
