Panera Bread North Dartmouth to donate proceeds from Pink Ribbon Bagel to Southcoast Hospitals' Women's Health Services during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Panera Bread, located at the Dartmouth Mall in North Dartmouth, is once again inviting its customers to join the fight against breast cancer by enjoying its signature Pink Ribbon Bagel for breakfast, lunch or dinner during national Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

In celebration of the Pink Ribbon Bagel Campaign's 11-year anniversary, 25 cents from each Pink Ribbon Bagel sold at the North Dartmouth bakery-cafe will be donated to Southcoast™ Hospitals' Women's Health Services. Panera North Dartmouth customers can also help by mentioning "Southcoast" or saying "Cater Pink" when placing a Catering order, where 10 percent of that catering order will be donated to Southcoast Hospitals' Women's Health Services.

"We're grateful for the opportunity to once again collaborate with Panera Bread and its Pink Ribbon Bagel campaign," said Christine LoPiano, Manager of Mammography and Outreach for the Southcoast Center for Women's Health in North Dartmouth. "Through the generous donation of Panera and its customers, we will be able to build much needed awareness for women's health issues in the South Coast region, including the importance of early detection and breast cancer education."

Panera Bread's Pink Ribbon Bagel is baked fresh daily in each of Panera Bread's bakery-cafes and features cherry chips, dried cherries, cranberries, vanilla, honey and brown sugar. The project follows the tradition of "thinking pink" during the month of October in the quest to eradicate breast cancer. Sue Stees, one of Panera Bread's first franchisees and a breast cancer survivor, developed the idea for the Pink Ribbon Bagel in 2001 as a way to help support the cause. Today, the program is employed in most of Panera Bread's more than 1,500 bakery-cafes across the country.

"Panera Bread and Howley Bread Group are committed to serving the residents of the local community, many of whom have had their lives touched by breast cancer," said Jim Ramaglia, District Manager for Panera Bread/HBG. "We are honored to support Southcoast Hospitals in its continuing efforts to increase the awareness of breast cancer and women's health."

Southcoast Hospitals is a primary provider of breast health services in the region and offers 100 percent digital mammography services at 11 locations throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. Southcoast Hospitals' Breast Imaging Centers are the only in the South Coast region to be designated as Centers of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
