E-HealthCareers at Bristol Community College celebrates fall semester with open house, special announcements
FALL RIVER, Mass. — A new semester is bringing new changes, new programs, and new partnerships to eHealthCareers at Bristol Community College. It also happens to be bringing a special Open House event as well.
eHealthCareers will hold their Fall Open House on Wednesday, August 8 from 4-7pm for those interested in learning more about eHealth's hybrid-model of healthcare education. The event will feature campus tours, admissions and financial aid counselors, snacks and beverages, and live music and giveaways from FUN 107. New to eHealth this Fall are the highly anticipated Nursing option, Central Sterile Technician, Gerontology, and Pharmacy Technician. They join a list of already popular eHealthCareers programs such as Phlebotomy, Emergency Medical Technician, and Occupational Therapy Assistant.
"Our goal is to keep growing and to keep meeting the needs of the healthcare industry and our community," said John J. Sbrega, Ph.D., President of Bristol Community College. "Each of the programs offered is designed to provide students with the education and skills needed to jump right into careers. Thanks to the state-of-the-art Campus in New Bedford, our students have the most modern educational tools available to them."
The event will also feature a press conference at 4:30pm officially welcoming the addition of the BCC eHealthCareers Nursing option, and the announcement of a new partnership with Southcoast Hospitals Group.
"By partnering with Southcoast Hospitals Group, we're aligning ourselves with one of the area's premiere healthcare providers," said Karen Varieur, Director of BCC eHealthCareers. "We say it often, but it's true: ‘community' really is our middle name. As a community hospital group, Southcoast will be able to provide real-life learning environments for our students, who are the healthcare professionals of tomorrow. You can't beat that type of experience."
"This new partnership is specifically designed to provide students with the training they need to fill much needed positions in the healthcare field," said David DeJesus, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Southcoast Health System. "BCC educators have, for a long time, had the ability to provide local students with high quality healthcare programs right here in our own community. Through this new partnership, students will have the opportunity to train in one our state-of-the-art surgery centers at St. Luke's or Charlton Memorial Hospital, with the most advanced technology and equipment available."
Launched in Fall 2010, eHealthCareers is an online-onsite program offered by BCC based in downtown New Bedford. Through hybrid learning, eHealthCareers provides healthcare education to students in a modern, flexible format while still offering the quality education for which BCC is known.
Students do the majority of their lecture work in online classrooms which significantly reduces the amount of time spent onsite. The days spent at the eHealth facility are used for intensive laboratory and hands-on studies.
