Christopher P. Cheney, MD, and Jason M. Rua elected to Southcoast Health System Board of Trustees
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Southcoast Health System and Southcoast Hospitals Group has announced that Christopher P. Cheney, MD, and Jason M. Rua, LIA, CIC, AAI, have been elected to the Board of Trustees that oversees Southcoast's not-for-profit health system and hospitals.
As members of the Board of Trustees for Southcoast Health System and Southcoast Hospitals Group, Dr. Cheney and Rua, along with their fellow trustees, provide fiduciary oversight for the region's largest and only not-for-profit health system.
Dr. Cheney received a Doctorate Degree from Albany Medical College in molecular biology in 1977. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 1986.
Dr. Cheney completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army after 24 years of continual service. Dr. Cheney is board certified by American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Cheney resides in South Dartmouth with his wife, Linda, and their four children, Matthew, Elizabeth, Patrick and Rebecca.
Rua is a current member of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors, United Way of Greater Fall River Board of Directors, Vice President of the Fall River Chamber Foundation Inc., Bristol Workforce Investment Board Member, Leadership Southcoast Board of Directors, and Chair of the Somerset Insurance Agents Association's Board of Directors.
Rua was the recipient of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce's President's Award in 2010, SouthCoast Insurance Agents' Presidents Award in 2008, the Rough Notes Company's National Community Service Award in 2003, Fall River Chamber of Commerce's Brayton Community Service Award in 2002, and the United Way of Greater Fall River's Long Term Volunteer Award in 1999 and the Salvation Army's Community Service Award in 2010.
Rua resides in Somerset with his fiancˇe, Christine, and his son, Alex.
