Richard Miller, MD, named Physician-in-Chief of the Surgical Care Center at Southcoast

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Southcoast Health System today announced the appointment of thoracic surgeon, Richard Miller, MD, as Physician-in-Chief of the Surgical Care Center for Southcoast Health System. In his new role, Dr. Miller provides clinical leadership and direction for Southcoast's Surgical Care Center by working closely with medical staff to assess quality of care, promote the sharing of best practices and provide clinical development, increasing these vital services to patients.

Dr. Miller has been a thoracic surgeon at Southcoast for the past six years, specializing in minimally invasive thoracic surgery and thoracic oncology. He will continue to see patients in his new role.

A graduate of Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., Dr. Miller received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, N.J. He completed a residency in general surgery at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J., and a cardiothoracic residency at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va. He also completed an advanced thoracic surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Millers is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
