Southcoast Rehab Services and Southcoast Diabetes Management opens state-of-the-art outpatient facility in Fall River

New Durfee Union location is centrally located with easy access off Interstate 195

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Southcoast Rehabilitation Services and the Southcoast Diabetes Management program today opened a new state-of-art-rehab facility at the Durfee Union Complex at 283 Pleasant St. in Fall River.

A number of Southcoast rehab programs located in the greater Fall River area have been relocated to the new Durfee Union site, including physical and occupational therapy, audiology, speech pathology, the Southcoast Diabetes Management Program, Somerset Cardiopulmonary Rehab and Southcoast's Occupational Health Rehabilitation program.

The new location is centrally located with easy access off Interstate 195 and offers patients the latest in outpatient rehabilitation equipment and technology.

"Southcoast Rehab's new Fall River site gives patients access to the most comprehensive rehabilitation services in Southeastern Massachusetts provided by a team of highly skilled professionals in a friendly and caring environment," said Jennifer Randall, Director of the Diabetes Program, Wound Care & Rehabilitation for Southcoast Health System.

Southcoast Rehabilitation Services, Occupational Health Rehab and Southcoast's Diabetes Management program, formerly located at Charlton Memorial Hospital, now occupy the newly remodeled ground floor and third floor of the building.

"The ground floor clinic has custom-built areas, including a complete audiology suite with a sound-proof booth for testing and separate hearing aid dispensing and repair stations," said Sharon Solomon, PT, Manager of Rehabilitation Services for Southcoast. "We also have a comprehensive hand splinting station for on-site custom hand splint design."

Other features on the ground floor include a distinct Occupational Health work conditioning area and staff for the treatment of patients with work-related injuries as well as a separately designed space with two educational classrooms created for the patient needs of the Diabetes Management Program.

The third floor is dedicated to the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

"Moving to the Durfee building has allowed us to provide an integrated outpatient and maintenance cardiac program," Solomon said. "Patients are accepted to the new facility upon discharge from the hospital. Individuals who are at high risk of heart disease can also be referred by their physicians for risk factor modification, education and participation in the newly developed medical fitness programs."

To learn more about any of these programs call Southcoast Rehab Services at Durfee Union at 508-324-3200, the Southcoast Diabetes Management Program at 508-324-3260 and Southcoast Occupational Health at 508-324-3280.

A public open house of the new Southcoast facility is planned for Thursday, March 25, from 3 to 6 p.m.
