Ask Rayford Kruger, MD, why he chose the Wareham area to raise his family and set up his practice and he talks about a mix of personal and professional priorities that ring true with many physicians.
Dr. Kruger moved to the Wareham area, settling in nearby Rochester, from idyllic Hanover, N.H. in 1990.
"This area has the same tranquil feeling," he said. "You get all of the benefits of a southeastern Massachusetts coastal town with proximity to Providence and Boston, without the hustle and bustle of Cape Cod.
And Rochester is a delightful community in which to raise children."
Dr. Kruger has found practicing in the community equally rewarding. He enjoys belonging to a small practice and the control it gives him over his work. "Working in an environment where there is no team of residents and interns allows you a closer relationship with your patients," he said. "It really gives you a great deal of satisfaction."
Southcoast also provides the support physicians need to succeed in building and growing a practice. The modern hospital settings have grown strategically, with upgrades either recently completed or planned at each of the hospital sites.
"As physicians, our number one concern is to provide excellent ongoing care to our patients," he said. "You can be the greatest surgeon in the world, but unless the hospital infrastructure is strong and supportive, you can not work to your potential. Here at Southcoast, we have the infrastructure that enables us to practice excellent medicine."
