Tobey's Makepeace Maternity Center
Tobey's Makepeace Maternity Center offers a home-like setting for childbirth and highly personal care for families. The center was constructed and opened in 1996 and includes many of the latest innovations in maternity care.
More than 25 percent of births performed by experienced certified nurse-midwife, who stays with the woman throughout labor and delivery. There is also continuity of nursing care with the same nurses available for labor, delivery, and recovery. Two certified lactation counselors assist with breastfeeding. More than 60 percent of new moms at Tobey breastfeed their infants.
Some 500 babies are born at Tobey each year, with 83 percent delivered vaginally.
