blood pressure is more affected by salt than other people's.


On average, Americans
eat way too much sodium and salt. And some people, such as African-Americans
and people who already have high blood pressure, are especially
sensitive to sodium and salt.
Experts advise that all Americans consume no more than 2,400
milligrams of sodium a day. This is especially important for
people with high blood pressure.
Processed foods, such as canned goods, condiments, and snack
products, are one of the main sources of sodium. Before purchasing
an item, check the food label to see how much sodium is in it.
Whenever possible, choose low-sodium varieties of canned goods,
snacks, and other foods.
You also should watch your use of table salt, both at the
table and in cooking. Instead, experiment with herbs, spices,
and salt-free seasonings.
