You
may be able to tell when an attack is coming on by noticing changes
in your child's breathing or behavior. Or you may detect a problem
by using a peak flow meter. This simple device measures breathing
so you can track how well your child is doing.
If your child is
having an attack, stay calm. Then, follow these steps:
- Help your child rest.
- Use the reliever medicine that your
doctor recommends.
- Call your doctor if the symptoms get
worse or don't improve after about five to 10 minutes.
- If you cannot reach your doctor and
your child's symptoms are severe, go to the emergency room.
