Even children with only occasional, mild symptoms need to take prescription medicine. Your child's doctor will probably recommend one or two medicines:

  • A fast-acting medicine that your child should take when symptoms flare up.
  • A daily medicine to help prevent symptoms in the first place.
  • It is important that you and your child understand how and when to take asthma medicine. Asthma inhalers can be particularly difficult to get the hang of. If you don't understand, be sure to ask plenty of questions until you do.
