Join Southcoast’s Fund-Raising Drive for Digital Mammography

You can help Southcoast give women — and men — an early start in the fight against breast cancer by helping to bring digital mammography to the region.

Digital mammography is important in the early detection of breast cancer in women who are:

  • Younger than 50.
  • Any age with extremely dense breasts.
  • Pre- or perimenopausal.

Southcoast is purchasing 13 digital mammography units for use in all Southcoast’s Hospitals and outpatient facilities — and this powerful, state-of-the-art technology has a high price tag. The machines cost $400,000 each, with an additional $100,000 needed per unit for building renovations and training.

Why join the fund-raising efforts? Digital mammography could benefit you or someone you love. The technology:

  • Produces extremely clear images that radiologists can magnify or manipulate to more accurately detect breast cancer.
  • Uses less radiation than traditional mammograms.
  • Reduces the need for rescreening, which means less anxiety for more women.
  • Significantly shortens exam time.
  • Enables images to be electronically transmitted for second opinions.
  • Is more efficient because there’s no processing or storing film.
Fund-raising for this important technology has already begun at all three hospitals but more help is needed.

With your support, Southcoast can finish the job.
