Community Unites to Support Tobey HospitalPeople from across the region have rallied to support a capital campaign at Tobey Hospital in Wareham that will ensure the best possible care for the community it serves. The Campaign for Tobey: A Legacy of Community Support has been launched to fund a renovation and construction project that will update the hospitals surgery department while making way for a new intensive care unit and future expansion to meet the growing health care needs of the community. In the private sector, community leaders have hosted numerous receptions, inviting friends and families into their homes to learn about the scope of the project and to ask for their support of the Campaign. The Capital Campaign Committee, chaired by Margie Baldwin and Margot Stone, has been actively soliciting leadership gifts and to date has raised just over $2 million dollars. Shortly, the community division of the campaign will be kicked off. Plans are underway for many events, including a black tie dinner/auction scheduled for next summer. The Employee Division of the Campaign has hosted a number of public events, which have captured the imagination and enthusiasm of Southcoast employees at all sites, as well as the community at large. The employees have sponsored Tobey Night at the Wareham Gatemen, Illumination Night in Onset and a pumpkin festival at Edaville Railroad. Future plans include a skating party, a super-humungous yard sale and a Little Miss Southcoast Pageant. Elaine Meredith, Vice President & Site Manager at Tobey, sees the employee campaign as a key element to The Campaign for Tobey. Its important to show pride in and dedication to the organization for which we work, Meredith said. And when people see employees supporting the campaign, it sends the message that the cause is worthwhile and that others should also do something to help. The renovation project will make Tobeys operating rooms state-of-the-art. The new operating room suites will better accommodate the equipment required for todays complex procedures and improve efficiency, allowing this vital service to continue to grow to better serve the needs of the community. While Southcoast has pledged 50 percent of the cost of the renovation project, the support of the Southcoast community is crucial in raising the remaining $5 million.
