Prevent Eye Injuries During Home Improvements

Tackling some work around the house? Remember to always put safety first. Household projects cause a great many eye injuries each year.

Experts find that safety glasses with polycarbonate lenses give eyes the best protection. You should always wear them if you:

  • Use a power weed trimmer or lawn mower.
  • Operate a drill or saw.
  • Use electric arc welding equipment or watch others use it.
  • Work with hazardous detergents or chlorine bleach. Special chemical safety goggles are a good idea in this case.

It’s also good to:

  • Remove debris from the lawn before mowing.
  • Use guards on power equipment.
  • Avoid mixing cleaning agents.
  • Store paints, pesticides and other chemicals in a secure place.
  • Follow all instructions and warning labels.

Taking proper care of an injured eye is vital. If you accidentally receive a blow to the eye, or if your eye is cut, punctured or burned, be sure to see a physician.
