A Helping Hand

A program introducing a number of complementary techniques to assist patients and their families in coping with a cancer diagnosis. Aromatherapy, therapeutic massage, relaxation techniques and meditation.

Support Group

First Monday of the month, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Ongoing support group for anyone who is post-treatment for a cancer diagnosis. This is offered to enable patients to deal with their feelings after treatment and with any effect the diagnosis and/or treatment has had on their lives.

Baby-Sitting 101 — Safe Sitter

For boys and girls age 11 and up. Teaches children to become safer and more effective baby-sitters. Heimlich Maneuver and CPR are taught.

Freshstart

Your start to a new life without cigarettes. Freshstart is the American Cancer Society’s quit-smoking program. It consists of two two-hour sessions held during a two-week period. Participant’s guide and health education materials included. Contact Josselyn Goveia at 508-999-2171.

TTAG: Teens Talking About Grief

Thursdays, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Meets monthly, call for dates. An educational and supportive group available to those ages 12 to 19 years who have experienced the death of a loved one. Cofacilitated by Hospice Volunteer Chantelle Pavao, a 20-year-old New Bedford native who has experienced the loss of both her parents. Sessions are designed to help young people cope with grief and share their feelings, memories and experiences with their peers.
