Teen Link Connects Area Teens to Helpful Services
In a world of uncertainty
and information overload, teens need a place to talk and find
reliable answers to their questions -- privately and confidentially.
That is why the Southcoast Hospitals Group Youth Risk Behaviors
Task Force has created Teen Link, the combination and expansion
of three local services that puts the answers to teen questions,
helpful information and local resources just a phone call away.
"Teen Link will be the result of three years of work
by the Southcoast Hospitals Youth Risk Behaviors Committee, which
involved teens and representatives of local youth agencies,"
said Ellen Banach, Vice President Hospital Systems Integration
for Southcoast Health System.
By dialing toll-free 1-888-723-TEEN, 24 hours a day,
a caller can quickly connect to any of the following:
- Teen Talk Line -- available Monday through
Thursday, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. A service of the New Bedford YWCA,
the talk line will be answered by trained teens who are on hand
to talk or help find answers and resources in the South Coast
region.
All conversations will be one-on-one, private and confidential.
- Health Link, a service of the New Bedford Prevention
Partnership, is an automated phone service with answers to more
than 150 different social and health-related questions about
alcohol, tobacco, drugs, mental health, sexual abuse, pregnancy
and other issues.
- What's Hot in the South Coast? Sponsored and compiled
by the New Bedford Prevention Partnership, these event listings
will be updated on a regular basis by local teens and include
dances, skate parks and places to go for teens from Fall River
to Cape Cod. To have an event included, please send, call or
e-mail information to Teen Link, PO Box 3012, New Bedford, MA
02742-6730, 508-979-1580 or nbppyouth@aol.com.
Submissions must include date, time, location, contact name (older
than age 18) and telephone number.
The Youth Risk Behavioral Task Force was formed in 1997 as
part of the Southcoast Hospitals Group Community Benefits Program.
