Whether you choose to support Tobey, St. Luke's or Charlton Hospital, the opportunities for giving are numerous ... and all are important. Here is a brief explanation of the ways you, our donors, can assure that your community hospital remains a strong and pioneering institution.
Outright gifts of cash, appreciated securities, or personal and tangible property represent some of the types of gifts you can make to Southcoast.
You can make a difference in your community by choosing to support vital patient care services through Southcoast's Annual Fund. Other opportunities for giving allow you to honor a friend or loved one, or double your gift through your employers matching gift program. You may also designate your gift to support important programs and services at your community hospital. Or if you prefer, undesignated or unrestricted gifts will be used where they are needed most at the Southcoast Hospital of your choice, providing Southcoast with the greatest flexibility in continuing our mission to serve others.
Planned gifts such as bequests, annuities and trusts represent the many ways you can make a charitable donation to Southcoast (now or later) while meeting your own financial and personal goals. In-kind contributions for special events are also welcome.
We would be happy to provide you with information to help you support the hospitals in a way that is most beneficial for you and your loved ones. If you would like more information or wish to make a gift, please contact Barbara H. Mulville, CFRE, Vice President of External Affairs, at 508-961-5353 1-800-925-9450 or by e-mail at externalaffairs@southcoast.org.

Cash. Gifts of cash by check or major credit card are the most immediate and simplest way of making a gift to Southcoast. Please visit our online giving form to see how you can make a gift of cash today.
Matching Gifts. Many businesses will match your gift to Southcoast through their giving programs. Matching gifts can greatly increase the impact of your donation by doubling or possibly tripling your support. To find out if your company will make a matching gift, consult your Human Resources or Personnel department.
Gifts of Appreciated Securities and/or Real Estate. Giving appreciated securities to Southcoast allows you to deduct the full fair market value of the stock as a charitable contribution, while bypassing all capital gains taxes. We encourage you to seek advice from your personal legal/tax counsel in determining your individual charitable tax deductions.
Gifts of Personal Property. Antiques, valuable collections, works of art and other forms of tangible personal property may be subject to estate taxes. When planning your estate, ask your financial advisor how you can reduce your taxable estate by donating such items during your lifetime rather than at your death, as well as reduce your taxable income in the year of the gift. We encourage you to seek advice from your personal legal/tax counsel in determining your individual charitable tax deductions.
Life Income Gifts. Certain types of planned giving vehicles allow you to transfer capital assets to the hospital now, continue to receive income from the gift and take a charitable donation.
Gifts Through Your Estate. Gifts from estate plans (bequest, trusts, life insurance and other planned giving vehicles) provide donors with great satisfaction in knowing that they have helped secure a future of outstanding health care for their community.
Southcoast Hospitals Group is a tax-exempt organization recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code relies on philanthropy to help fund its patient and community services. Southcoast Health Systems gratefully accepts tax-deductible contributions.

Annual Fund. Southcoast seeks philanthropic support on an annual basis from employees, medical staff, trustees, patients and friends. These annual donations are vital to helping us remain an innovator in medical technology, education, and patient care. Additional funding is received from the many memorial donations given by grateful families and friends, remembering and honoring loved ones, as well as through corporate donations and sponsorships.
Today, philanthropy is more important than ever. Changes by government and other insurers have dramatically decreased the amount of funding available to medical institutions. Meanwhile, the costs of caring for patients, purchasing necessary technology, and providing educational programs continue to rise.
Contributions from individuals and business are recognized on a yearly basis by membership in Leadership Gift Societies. Planned or deferred gifts from individuals are recognized in one of three Southcoast planned giving societies.
In addition, donors may designate their gifts to individual hospitals or specific departments or programs within each hospital.
Memorials/Tributes. A memorial gift is a most thoughtful way to honor people who have enriched your life. Gifts can be designated to a particular hospital, program or service that may have benefited your family member or friends. All contributions, large and small, are important and are acknowledged to both the donor and the family
