Helping a child cope with the stress of hospitalization and illness. Providing support to parents. Or, just finding a way to let a kid be a kid, even while they are in the hospital.
This is what we want our child life program to be about.
And your participation in The Classic will help us do just that.
Your support will allow us to support our pediatric department with the creation of the Southcoast Child Life Program — a program staffed by specially trained members of our health care team who are focused on providing emotional support to children and their families while in the hospital.
A hospitalization is an interruption in a child's normal routine. It is emotionally straining on the child and their family. Child life specialists are specially trained to provide children with the support they need, including age-appropriate preparation for medical procedures, pain management and coping strategies, productive play and educational experiences. From art projects to special events, play time to education about their treatment, the child life team provides a service that is vital to caring for not only the health of our littlest patients, but also their wellbeing.
Please help us launch a program that will help us distract, soothe and comfort our littlest patients and their families.
