Southcoast Rehabilitation Services offers free balance screenings in Fall River and Dartmouth during the month of September
Southcoast Rehabilitation Services joins the Massachusetts Falls Prevention Coalition in its sixth annual "Stand Together to Prevent Falls" event this September by offering free balance screenings to the community.
Falls are the leading cause of injury or death among older Americans. Studies suggest that one in three Americans age 65 and older will suffer a fall each year. These falls often result in injuries that may threaten a person's independence and quality of life. In addition to injury, fear of falling may cause a person to limit their social activities, which can result in depression from physical decline, social isolation and feelings of helplessness.
Between Monday, September 23, and Friday, September 27, physical therapists from Southcoast Rehabilitation Services will offer free 30-minute balance screenings and fall prevention education.
Screenings will be available at Southcoast Rehabilitation Services in Dartmouth and Fall River. Screenings are open to the public. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. To reserve a free balance screening, call 508-324-3209. For more information about Southcoast Rehabilitation Services, visit http://www.southcoast.org/rehab/.
Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care earns national seal of accreditation from the American College of Radiology
Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety.
The ACR seal of accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Radiation Oncology Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
The ACR is the nation's oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with more than 500 accredited sites, and 25 years of accreditation experience.

Panera Bread North Dartmouth to donate proceeds from Pink Ribbon Bagel to Southcoast's Mammography Program during the month of October
Panera Bread, located at the Dartmouth Mall in North Dartmouth, is once again inviting its customers to join the fight against breast cancer by enjoying its signature Pink Ribbon Bagel for breakfast, lunch or dinner during national Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
In celebration of the Pink Ribbon Bagel Campaign's 12-year anniversary, 25 cents from each Pink Ribbon Bagel sold at the North Dartmouth bakery-café will be donated to Southcoast Health System's Mammography Program.
Panera Bread's Pink Ribbon Bagel is baked fresh daily in each of Panera Bread's bakery-cafés and features cherry chips, dried cherries, cranberries, vanilla, honey and brown sugar. Sue Stees, one of Panera Bread's first franchisees and a breast cancer survivor, developed the idea for the Pink Ribbon Bagel in 2001 as a way to help support the cause. Today, the program is employed in most of Panera Bread's more than 1,500 bakery-cafés across the country.
