Get farm fresh food — every week!

Southcoast has partnered with Silverbrook Farm in Dartmouth to expand community sustainability agriculture (CSA) across the South Coast region.

This means you can get fresh produce direct from a local farm — every week!

The new cooperative will provide fresh, locally grown produce to interested community residents for 19 consecutive weeks, lasting throughout the summer and early autumn growing seasons. Produce can be picked up in four convenient locations.

Depending on the time of season, shares may include: basil, beets, broccoli, carrots, corn, cucumbers, currants, eggplant, garlic, herbs, kale, leeks, onions, parsnips, peas, peppers, potatoes, salad greens, spinach, squash, string beans, tomatoes, turnips, apples, blueberries, grapes, melons, peaches, pears, raspberries, strawberries and flowers. In addition, a variety of locally produced cheeses as well as Silverbrook's own free-range eggs, preservative-free jams and a variety of mustards are occasionally included in the weekly shares.

Members may opt to purchase either a full or half share box, which can be paid for entirely upfront or in three installments.

  • Full share: $741 ($39 per week) for the entire season.
  • Half share: $399 ($21 per week) for the entire season.

Camp Angel Wings

Camp Angel Wings from Southcoast VNA
Registration is now open for "Camp Angel Wings," the 10th annual bereavement camp held by Southcoast VNA.

This is an exciting, fun-filled, two-day camp experience for children and teens, ages 6 through 15, who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The camp will be held on July 13 and 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Cathedral Camp for Boys & Girls, 167 Middleboro Road in East Freetown.

Camp Angel Wings incorporates interactive activities including music, swimming, arts and crafts, as a positive way to help campers share their loss, and memorialize loved ones. All activities are designed to reduce feelings of isolation while improving the self-esteem of children and teens who share like experiences in grief.

The Southcoast Hospitals' Responsible Attitudes toward Pregnancy, Parenting & Prevention (RAPPP) Program is offering local youth the opportunity to take part in one, two or three different camp sessions this summer. Boys and girls ages 11 to 14 are invited to participate in a fun camp-style atmosphere.

  • "Leadership and Personal Responsibility," July 8 through 19. This camp will focus on developing personal growth and leadership skills through teamwork, leadership roles and problem solving.

  • "Fine Arts Camp," July 22 through August 2. This session will offer campers the chance to discover their inner artist through music, art and theater.

  • "Survivor Camp," August 5 through 16. This session will prepare campers on how to respond in an emergency and disaster situations.

The program is directed by RAPPP's experienced youth educators who are trained in adolescent health and youth development. All sessions will include two field trips, outdoor activities and two snacks per day.
