Truesdale Cardiology Inc., based at Truesdale Clinic in Fall River, has joined Southcoast Physician Services, the largest network of primary and specialty care physicians on the South Coast.

Truesdale Cardiology includes five board-certified cardiologists who have a range of expertise, including invasive and interventional cardiology and heart disease in women. Cardiologists Peter Cohn, MD, David Farber, MD, Peter Mandelson, MD, Maryanne Norris, MD and Jay Schachne, MD, will continue caring for patients in their offices at Truesdale Clinic and at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

"Truesdale Cardiology is recognized as one of the leading cardiology groups in our region and we are proud that these physicians have chosen to be part of our growing network," said Warren Wood, MD, President of Southcoast Physician Services. "The cardiologists at Truesdale have played a large role in the growth of Southcoast as one of the outstanding health care centers in New England. They have been strong partners in providing the very best cardiac services to a region that is in great need of this care."

The collaboration brings together primary care and specialty physicians in a coordinated system that is focused on outstanding quality and patient care.

"Our affiliation with Southcoast Physician Services offers our patients greater continuity of care and more streamlined care in a cooperative effort between providers, in particular making sure there is not duplication of services or tests," Dr. Schachne said.

Learn the facts about women and heart disease

February is heart month — and a good time to make sure you know your heart-health facts.

Women have special needs when it comes to heart health. It's important to know the facts, such as:

  • Heart disease kills more women than all types of cancer combined.

  • Heart disease is not just a disease of older women. It is the leading cause of death for women age 35 and older.

  • Women often experience milder symptoms of heart disease. About one third of women who have a heart attack have no chest pain at all.

  • Heart disease kills six times as many women as breast cancer.
