Give a pint ~ get a pound!

There's still time to get a free pound of Dunkin' Donuts® coffee when you give blood at the Southcoast Blood Bank.

Throughout January 2011, anyone who donates blood at the Southcoast Blood Bank at St. Luke's Hospital or at any Southcoast Blood Bank site or blood drive will receive a certificate for a pound of Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Coupons are redeemable at any Dunkin' Donuts shop. Southcoast employees also receive a day off when they donate three times within an 18-month period.

Stop by the Southcoast Blood Bank at St. Luke's Hospital Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., or Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Appointments are requested, but not necessary, and can be made by calling 508-961-5320.

John Day named 2010 SouthCoast Man of the Year

John B. Day, CEO of Southcoast Health System

The Standard-Times, the region's largest newspaper, named Southcoast Health System CEO John B. Day as its 2010 SouthCoast Man of the Year.

The newspaper praised Day for the vision to build the 1996 merger of hospitals that created Southcoast Health System that "eliminated duplications, lowered costs and brought services to the region — open-heart surgery and weight loss surgery, to name two — in what became a more comprehensive menu of local medical care than ever before."

The article, published January 2, 2011, touched on Day's legacy at Southcoast, how he and Ronald B. Goodspeed, MD, MPH, mapped out the Southcoast merger on a napkin, the significance of the name Southcoast and passing the reins to Keith A. Hovan, President of Southcoast Health System and President & CEO of Southcoast Hospitals Group.

Check out our tribute page, including a video tribute to Day and the text of Day's remarks at Southcoast's 2010 Annual Meeting.
