OcTOBEYfest will raise funds for cancer center

Join us for OcTOBEYfest Harvesting Hope, a Tobey Hospital community event to benefit the Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care.

The event will be held Friday, October 1, under a tent on the grounds of A.D. Makepeace at Tihonet Village in Wareham. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.

The event will feature an inspirational performance by Change the World with dancing to follow with music by The Neal McCarthy Blues Band. There will also be a charitable auction.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Southcoast Center for Cancer Care's new flagship outpatient center, which is under construction in Fairhaven and set to open in early 2011.

St. Luke's plans "Trip Around the World"

The St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting a "Trip Around the World" to benefit the purchase of fetal heart monitors for the Family Centered Unit (maternity) at St. Luke's Hospital, the New Bedford site of Southcoast Hospitals Group.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, October 2, at 6 p.m. at the Eagle Performing Arts Center, 35 North Main Street, Fall River. The fun-filled evening includes appetizers from around the world and an international four-course gourmet meal with pairing wines. Travel from port-to-port with live entertainment from Scotland, England, Portugal, Italy and Brazil.

The silent and "live" auctions will be held throughout the evening. Auction highlights include a New England Patriots' helmet signed by Tom Brady, a New England Patriots' football signed by Tedy Bruschi, one week in Pilar da Bretanha, Azores (includes one airfare) and a Cape & Island Cruise for four people aboard a 36-foot sports cruising boat.

Know your stats about prostate cancer

Southcoast Hospitals has joined the national 2010 Know Your Stats campaign from the American Urological Association Foundation, which has teamed with the National Football League to encourage all men over 40 to talk with their doctors about prostate cancer, their PSA (prostate-specific antigen) score and getting regular physical exams.
