A team approach to stroke therapy


When 80-year-old Edward Anacleto of Fall River began going to the Mitchell Therapies Center at Charlton Memorial Hospital, he had double trouble — a heart stent to relieve chest pain and a subsequent stroke.

But that did not stop him from attending his needed cardiac rehabilitation.

When Southcoast cardiopulmonary nurse Linda Paiva met with Anacleto, she did more than just help with heart-strengthening exercises. She gauged all of Anacleto's trouble spots, recognizing that with the right therapy he could regain greater independence and mobility than originally anticipated.

With teamwork, therapists at Southcoast have improved the odds for regaining strength and function for patients like Anacleto.
