An initiative to help patients improve the management of oral medications has earned Southcoast Home Care recognition by the MassPRO Home Health Quality Initiative.
The havoc wrought by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast states reminds us all of how devastating a natural disaster can be.
For the medical teams at Southcoast Hospitals who would respond to such a crisis in our region, annual training and crisis planning are the best preparation.
Earlier this year representatives from the Tobey Hospital Emergency Department were among the first in Massachusetts to attend a national disaster readiness program at the Noble Training Center (NTC) in Alabama.
"It's as close to the real thing as you can get," said Robert B. Quirk BA, RN, Nurse Manager of Emergency Services at Tobey. "From chemical exposures and infectious disease to violent crimes and hostage situations, the training is designed to provide health care professionals with the skills to manage the most devastating of circumstances."
