Reflections of Southcoast staff
Ron Lafleur
The rich culture of caring — both for patients and for staff — and the continued commitment to provide exceptional service to all of our patients and partners never ceases to surprise me. I look forward to the continued development of our culture, which will improve our reputation as the preferred organization both as a provider of health care services and as an employer in our communities.

I'm not surprised, but pleased about where we have arrived with cardiac care and how it will advance in the future. Speaking from personal experience, my husband and I are happy that we do not have to travel to Boston every time there is a problem or just for a follow-up visit for his care. We know how lucky we are to have our health care providers close by.

What has pleased me most since the merger is the services we now offer to the residents of Wareham and the surrounding towns. We used to send many patients to hospitals in Boston for care they needed — now we can send them to physicians who are affiliated with Southcoast. I'm looking forward to the many more services that we will be able to offer our patients.

I love the upward and forward thinking that goes on here! I am amazed that Southcoast is always improving the facilities at each hospital site. Charlton, Tobey and St. Luke's have all had major improvements since I started working here a little over four years ago.

I have been surprised at the smooth transition of the three very different hospitals. The logistics of combining all of our differences seemed overwhelming at first. I think the "blending" of three into one went quickly and, from the employee point of view, pretty smoothly. There were plenty of meetings for us as each issue was addressed.

What impressed me most about the merger is that people could work so efficiently in different physical sites with the same common goals. During the time of the merger, the Charlton information desk worked out very well in the hall across from the Brayton elevators and then made a nice adjustment to a new gorgeous lobby after first leaving the original lobby before hall location. People worked as a team to accomplish this.

What has surprised me most about Southcoast is how our employees have supported one another throughout the transition and beyond. Our many cultural programs and training improve cooperation and our ability to do our jobs. Our cardiac services are phenomenal and our new and improved ED shows how we have expanded and gives me a positive outlook for the future. I look forward to many new wellness programs that we can access through the intranet to improve our total well-being.
